The Royal Palace of Caserta, also known as Reggia di Caserta, was built during the reign of the Bourbons of Naples and desired in particular by Carlo di Borbone, who had as a point of reference the Palace of Versailles.
The exterior of the Palace is characterized by two types of gardens, one Italian, where numerous fountains accompany the ascent of the visitor up to the beautiful “Big Waterfall” scene and then after you can go down through the English gardens, through the woods where flora and fauna grow undisturbed.
The Royal Palace, however, is characterized by the Baroque style, very flashy and certainly superlative in the eyes of the visitor. Consisting of more than a thousand rooms, the palace, built by Luigi Vanvitelli’s design, was defined to be “One of the most perfect creations of architecture of all time.”
